Meet Ryan Hobbs

Ryan is adjunct professor of trumpet at Illinois Wesleyan University and Elgin Community College, and plays trumpet with Northside Brass Quintet. As a Classical Freelancer Ryan has performed with many groups including: the Omaha Symphony and Brass Quintet, Chicago Sinfoniettia, Chicago Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra of St. John Cantius, Ilinois Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Arts Orchestra, Elmhurst Symphony, Chicago Composers Orchestra, Tower Chorale, Chicago's "Bach-Week" Festival Orchestra, Apollo Chorus, UW-Milwaukee Faculty Brass Quintet, Oistrach Symphony Orchestra, Millar Brass Ensemble, International Chamber Artists Orchestra, New Philharmonic Orchestra, Paderewski Symphony (Chicago), Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra (Appleton, WI), Present Music Milwaukee, Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, Peoria Symphony Orchestra, Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra, Dubuque Symphony Orchestra (3rd Trumpet 2013-2014 Season), Racine Symphony Orchestra, and the Kenosha Symphony Orchestra.
As a Jazz/Commercial Player Ryan has performed with Dennis DeYoung and "Styx", Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, and Doc Severinson and his Big Band, grammy nominated jazz vocalist Jane Monheit, and Damien McGinty from "Glee" and Irish Thunder. In 2013 Ryan performed with Ethan Bortnick (child piano prodigy) for an internationally televised PBS fundraiser called “Ethan Bortnick- The Power of Music". He has also performed in countless Broadway show pit orchestras around Chicago including: "Anything Goes", "How to Succeed in Business without really trying", "Hunchback of Notre Dame" at Music Theater Works in Evanston (Formerly Light Opera Works), "In the Heights" with Porchlight Theater Chicago, "I left my Heart, a Tribute to Tony Bennett" at the Mercury Theater Chicago, and "Hair" at the Metropolis Performing Arts Center.
Finally, Ryan is passionate about music education and maintains an active private teaching studio throughout the Chicago-land area providing lessons at: Geneva High School, Neuqua Valley High School, Metea Valley High School and Elgin Larkin High School. He also teaches from his home in Geneva.
